A significant weather system is expected to persist affecting the Sultanate of Oman
starting after midnight tonight, continuing through Friday. This system is likely to bring heavy
thunderstorms, which may be accompanied by hail and strong downdraft winds. The initial impacts
are forecast to affect the governorates of Musandam, Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah,
and Al Dakhiliyah, before gradually extending to include Muscat, South Al Batinah, North Al
Sharqiyah, South Al Sharqiyah, and Al Wusta.
Impact level: Moderate to high.
Alerts:
• Heavy thundershowers are expected associated with hail and may cause flashfloods (Wadis).
• Strong downdraft wind with speed ranging (20 – 50) knots (37 – 92km/h).
• Reduction in horizontal visibility during thundershowers.
Chances of isolated rain with occasional thundershowers will affect Dhofar governorate.
Impact level: Low to moderate.
The Civil Aviation Authority advices all to take precautions during thundershower, not to cross
Wadis (Flashfloods), avoid low laying areas and not to sail during alert period.
