The latest forecasts and analyses from the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center
indicate that the weather in the Sultanate of Oman will be affected by a trough of low pressure
leading to rainfall with varying intensity, associated with thundershowers, hails and fresh winds
starting from 20 March 2026 and continuing until 30 March 2026. There is also a chance of flash
floods in valleys and wadis, reduced horizontal visibility during rainfall and rising dust and sand.
Details of daily weather condition:
Friday 20th – Saturday 21 st of March 2026:
Clouds advection and formation over the governorates of Musandam, Al Buraimi, North
Al Batinah, Muscat, parts of the Al Hajar Mountains, and the coasts of Dhofar Governorate.
Chances of light isolated rain occasionally thundershowers. Moderate to fresh southeasterly
winds (10–25 knots) are also expected over coastal areas of the Arabian Sea.
Impact level: Low (limited).
Sunday and Monday 22nd –23rd of March 2026:
The main wave is expected to begin affecting over the sultanate accompanied by the
formation of convective clouds over the governorates of Musandam, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah,
North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, North Al Sharqiyah, and South Al
Sharqiyah. The effects may extend to parts of Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates, with a
chance of rainfall of varying intensity occasionally thundershower.
Alerts:
 Flash floods in valleys and wadis.
 Fresh downdraft winds (30–45 knots / 35–83 km/h) with chances of hail.
 Moderate to fresh southeasterly winds (10–25 knots) over coastal areas of the Arabian
Sea leading to rising dust and sand and reduced horizontal visibility.
 Sea conditions will be moderate over most coasts of the Sultanate of Oman, with
maximum wave heights of 2 meters. It is advised not to go to sea during thunderstorm
activity.
Impact level: Moderate to high.
Period: 24 – 30 March 2026:
The weather condition is expected to continue affecting most governorates of the Sultanate of
Oman, with rainfall of varying intensity that may be thundery at times, with chance of flash
flooding in valleys and wadis. Forecasts for this period will be updated and detailed in upcoming
reports.
The Civil Aviation Authority urges everyone to exercise caution during rainfall, flash floods, and
reduced visibility, to check sea conditions before heading out, and to follow the official
weather bulletins issued by the authority.
